SY62 3-Deck: A deep dive into the electrical systems by Boat Test

After their first performance review of the SY62 3-Deck, the BoatTest team returns with a second video, diving deep into the electrical systems that power the yacht’s virtually limitless range and connected comfort.

Capt. Boomies, who defined the SY62 “a radically different vessel”, was eager to uncover the technology behind this cutting-edge yacht’s ability to cruise powered by sunshine alone. In this video, together with Silent Yachts’ Vice Chairman, Steve Bell, she explores what makes it possible for the SY62 to rely entirely on solar energy, without the need for a generator.

The video showcases data from an actual cruising trip the SY62 completed from George Town to Nassau in the Bahamas, precisely the kind of journey many cruising owner-operators would take.

And the results are nothing short of impressive. This entire cruise was powered by solar energy and batteries, with zero use of the generator. Over the course of a typical seven-day Bahamian cruise, the SY62 covered 120 nautical miles, with air conditioning running most of the time, and the freezers and refrigerators operating 24/7. All other appliances were used as usual, with the generator never being needed.

Here’s a quick look at the numbers:

  • Total days of cruise: 7
  • Total nautical miles: 120
  • Total electricity consumed: 1,064 kWh
  • Total fuel used: Zero
  • Cost: Zero
  • Total emissions: Zero
  • Total noise pollution: Zero

These numbers say it all: this is the future of cruising. At Silent Yachts, we are proud to redefine what it means to cruise sustainably, and this independent review by BoatTest confirms that it’s not just a promise, but a reality.

As Capt. Boomies puts it: “She’s not the first all-electric drive yacht I’ve been on. But most of those were one-off custom rebuilds, not a full-series production yacht ready to zip along the waves.”

We’re excited to lead the way in crafting fully solar-powered yachts in series production, bringing this groundbreaking technology to the cruising world.
